Carnival is the period before Lent (a traditonally time of feasting) a period of feasting and dancing for the catalans. Parties and street parades animate all the city. A mock funeral procession marks the end of this event.

In the St John’s Eve (Sant Joan) in Barcelona peoples celebrate summer solstice with a great firework display. This event is the prelude of the national holiday of John the Baptist.
